Tommy Rio

At only 21, rising star Tommy Rio has achieved much success already. This Includes residencies at clubs around the world, and studio credits from some top names. Still honing his skills, Tom uses the residencies to road test his work plus has developed a unique sound of rolling techno and jackin’ electro. At the moment he holds down 2 residencies in Bristol (Just Jack & Groove On) plus has been a resident for the largest club in Menorca (the Caves).

Although born in Rio (hence the name), Tom spent his childhood years growing up in Holland. After messing around on a friends set of turntables at the age of 16, he caught the bug, saved his pocket money and bought his own belt drives.

Tom had not played out before starting at Bristol University in 2003. Whilst visiting his parents in Menorca, the third, lesser known Balearic Island, he took part in a DJ competition and landed himself a residency at a club simply called 'The Caves’. Summer of 2005, Tom DJed every week to a huge dance floor set in a beautiful cave network, 200 feet above the sea. Playing alongside the likes of Robbie Rivera, Lee Cabrera and others, Tom learned a great deal
and gained a lot of confidence playing to large crowds.

Back in Bristol, Tom managed to get some weekend gigs which meant playing to a more discerning crowd than weekly student nights. Along with fellow DJ, Dan Wild, Rio set up Just Jack, a club night based on serious music and a laid back attitude to life. Just Jack has turned into a real Bristol success and has given tom the opportunity to hone his sound plus play alongside respected DJs such as: Jesse Rose, Paul Woolford, Buckley, Krysko, Simon Baker plus good friend deepgroove. Tom has also travelled the country being booked to warm up for; Fergie, Tim Deluxe and Silicone Soul and Tom Neville.

After starting out playing early electro house and breaks, Tom has now sculpted a sound which he describes as 'techy-jacking-electro'. He finds it hard to identify a label or an artist which he could call his favourite, 'I like so many things that my sound is always changing. If I like a track and I think it'll go down well then I’ll play it'. Tom has also recently started producing, and if your lucky you'll hear his latest work scattered throughout his sets.
